What's new in version 5.4.4
- Resolved a bug that could cause Default Folder X's controls around Open and Save dialogs to disappear. Clicking on the file dialog would bring them back.
- Fixed an issue that resulted in the Finder toolbar buttons failing to add or remove themselves properly from the Finder when running macOS 10.13 or earlier.
- Corrected a bug that resulted in Default Folder X's icon not showing in the menu bar in macOS 10.10 and 10.11.
What changed recently in version 5.4.3
Feature enhancements:
- Default Folder X is now faster at opening folders in the Finder, Path Finder and ForkLift.
- Previews shown in menus and the Finder drawer will no longer grow to show very large versions of application or folder icons.
- For very small images, previews are no longer enlarged, pixelized renditions of them. The images are shown at their actual size.
- When the 'Create aliases of Recent and Favorite items in your Library folder' option is turned on in the preferences, aliases to recently closed Finder windows will also be created.
- Holding down the Option key will change the 'Forget Recent xxx' menu commands to 'Forget All Recent Data', making it easier to erase all of your recent folder, file and Finder window history from Default Folder X. There's also a new button in Default Folder X > Preferences > Menus to forget all historical data.
- You can use AppleScript to add files and folders to Default Folder X's Finder drawer and drag zone. See the Add/Get/RemoveDroppedItem verbs in Default Folder X's scripting dictionary.
- AppleScript can now be used to show Default Folder X's menus at a particular location on the screen. Use this syntax:
tell application 'Default Folder X' to ShowMenu location {200, 900} - If you don't want to give Default Folder X permission to record your screen, you can use this Terminal command to bypass it (at the expense of seeing graphical glitches from time to time):
defaults write com.stclairsoft.DefaultFolderX5 launchWithoutScreenRecordingPermission 1
Bug fixes:
- Fixed problems with Save As dialogs responding very, very slowly when saving to slow network drives.
- Corrected a bug that prevented Default Folder X from correctly showing your iCloud Drive folder in the Finder.
- Fixed problems with Save dialogs in macOS's built-in screen capture utility in Mojave and Catalina.
- Corrected several issues that could make Default Folder X's switching to folders in Open and Save dialogs unreliable.
- Fixed problems with tags and comments 'coming back' after you remove them while replacing a file with a newly saved version.
- The 'Open in the frontmost Finder window' option for opening folders now works correctly when you have a floating Get Info window showing in the Finder.
- Default Folder X will no longer think folder names with differing capitalization are different folders unless the underlying filesystem is actually case-sensitive.
- Corrected the display of the Desktop in the Finder-click feature so all appropriate windows are shown even when TotalFinder is running.
- Worked around problems with Default Folder X not working in Pro Tools when Pro Tools takes a long time to launch.
- Using an alias to move your Home folder to a different location will no longer confuse Default Folder X.
- Fixed graphical glitches when switching to empty folders and with Rogue Amoeba's Fission app.
- Fixed Default Folder X's detection of tabs in Finder windows that aren't in the current Space.
- Corrected a problem with converting preferences when upgrading from version 4.x.
- Resolved a number of infrequent crashes.
